About James Tissot

James Tissot is a CFP® (Certified Financial Planner) Practitioner currently practicing in New York City, Westchester County and the Hudson Valley. He provides clients with a personalized, needs-based financial plan that is built around their personal circumstances, goals and dreams. James' primary goal is to understand the specific situation and needs of each client and then create a plan that will help guide clients towards their financial goals. He is the President and founder of Prism Planning, Inc.; a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor.

Mr. Tissot came to a Financial Planning career due in large part to the AIDS crisis. To better assist a friend afflicted with HIV/AIDS, James started attending seminars offered at the Lesbian and Gay Center on financial planning for the disabled and terminally ill, sponsored by Body Positive. Whether through the love of a friend, passion of cause or assimilation of past business exposure, he found he had an acumen for this type of work. He then went back to school to gain the formal education to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (tm).

He is a member of the PridePlanners Association and continues his pro bono work with those with HIV/AIDS. He frequently conducts seminars on non-traditional family planning and was recently retained by the Episcopal Church Pension Groupin that area.

In addition to his practice, he is an editor and instructor for Keir Educational Resources, a publisher of financial education materials. In that position he writes materials for as well as teaches live reviews for the CFP® Certification Examination. He has edited books on financial calculators and writes and edits materials for all FINRA Series exams. These activities keep him current of all regulatory and tax changes.

About Boulevard R

Boulevard R started out as a conversation between Jon and Matt Iverson over lunch in June 2005. As Jon was just about to turn 59 1/2 and start withdrawing savings from his retirement accounts, he was trying to figure out the best way to go about it.

At the time, Matt was working for one of the leading consumer advocates in California who was the founding director of Consumers Union's West Coast Office (publishers of Consumer Reports). As they worked together to address Jon's issue, they found a business environment that required asset minimums and largely excluded most people seeking independent financial strategies.

To level the playing field, they set about building a team of some of the top independent financial planners in the country, as well as a leading behavioral economist, Prof. Dan Ariely from MIT and Duke, recently named one of Fortune's 10 New Gurus of the Year. On the software side, Jon and Matt recruited a star team of programmers and brought on the technical founder of E*Trade as an advisor.

With the team in place, Matt and Jon set out to develop a tool that could help everyone find out if they were on track and also identify some key areas where they could improve. Ultimately, they settled on creating a fun, engaging service that financial advisors could offer to people in their local communities in order to help them answer the question "Am I financially on track?"

In designing the product for advisors to provide to people in their local area, Boulevard R took data security and consumer privacy very seriously. In addition to the latest security measures, Boulevard R uses the highly secure Verisign SSL encryption technology. In order to help keep users of the product protected, Matt and Jon decided not to request any sensitive personal information, such as passwords, social security numbers, etc.

Since its inception in 2005 as a social venture with the goal of making independent financial education universally available, Boulevard R continues to focus on ways to help everyone reach their financial goals.
