About Boulevard R

Boulevard R started out as a conversation between Jon and Matt Iverson over lunch in June 2005. As Jon was just about to turn 59 1/2 and start withdrawing savings from his retirement accounts, he was trying to figure out the best way to go about it.

At the time, Matt was working for one of the leading consumer advocates in California who was the founding director of Consumers Union's West Coast Office (publishers of Consumer Reports). As they worked together to address Jon's issue, they found a business environment that required asset minimums and largely excluded most people seeking independent financial strategies.

To level the playing field, they set about building a team of some of the top independent financial planners in the country, as well as a leading behavioral economist, Prof. Dan Ariely from MIT and Duke, recently named one of Fortune's 10 New Gurus of the Year. On the software side, Jon and Matt recruited a star team of programmers and brought on the technical founder of E*Trade as an advisor.

With the team in place, Matt and Jon set out to develop a tool that could help everyone find out if they were on track and also identify some key areas where they could improve. Ultimately, they settled on creating a fun, engaging service that financial advisors could offer to people in their local communities in order to help them answer the question "Am I financially on track?"

In designing the product for advisors to provide to people in their local area, Boulevard R took data security and consumer privacy very seriously. In addition to the latest security measures, Boulevard R uses the highly secure Verisign SSL encryption technology. In order to help keep users of the product protected, Matt and Jon decided not to request any sensitive personal information, such as passwords, social security numbers, etc.

Since its inception in 2005 as a social venture with the goal of making independent financial education universally available, Boulevard R continues to focus on ways to help everyone reach their financial goals.
