Boulevard R started out as a conversation between Jon and Matt Iverson over lunch in June 2005. As Jon was just about to turn 59 1/2 and start withdrawing savings from his retirement accounts, he was trying to figure out the best way to go about it. Curious to learn more about personal finance, Matt started looking into solutions and soon they both realized that there were plenty of folks who wanted to sell them something, but independent advice was hard to find.
Since, at the time, Matt was working for one of the leading consumer advocates in California (the founding director of Consumers Union's (publishers of Consumer Reports) West Coast Office)), he started to look into the issues facing consumers seeking independent financial advice.
What they found was a business model that required asset minimums and largely excluded many Americans who needed independent advice the most.
What they created by working with leading financial experts is what they jokingly call a "sheep in wolf's clothing"-- a platform that makes it easy for independent advisors to grow their business, while also ensuring that everyone gets some level of financial education from the goals process, Starter Roadmap and Dashboard. The kicker is that advisors barely have to lift a finger.
